With Eric's side of the family we have all gone somewhere "Up North" every Labor Day weekend since 2004 with the exception of the last 2 years. We started it up again this last Labor Day by going and renting a house up on Burt Lake. The kids especially look forward to this time together to play and eat. We have gotten pretty organized about it by giving each family a main meal to make and the food is always Amazing! We also try to get away from the house at least 1 or 2 days to take a short local trip. This year we spent one day Jet Skiing and swimming on Indian River/Burt Lake and the next day we all went up to Mackinaw City to walk around, eat and shop.
